Making a Gift to The ALS Association of Georgia

A cure for ALS may be many years away.  Fortunately, ALS patients are living longer, healthier lives than ever before due to the advancements in drug treatments and medical care.  However, until a cure is found, the ALS Association of Georgia must depend on generous contributions to maintain the quality of our programs and services.

There are several giving options you can consider that will support the ALS Association of Georgia in meeting the future challenges of ALS, as well as offering significant tax advantages.  As you consider your future financial plans, we hope that you will also consider the ALS Association of Georgia as an appropriate investment.

Honorariums and Memoriams
A gift can be made to the ALS Association of Georgia in honor of or in memory of a loved one, family member, friend, or colleague and serves as a thoughtful tribute to endure for years to come. Your contribution to the ALS Association of Georgia offers a meaningful living gift that respects someone you love, as well as enhances the quality of life for PALS.  Acknowledgements will be sent to the person(s) being honored or to individuals that you wish to be notified of the memorial gift.  The respective individual will be recognized in the Annual Report of the ALS Association of Georgia.

Gifts of Stock
If you own stock, it may be tax-wise to contribute stock rather than cash.  You do not have to pay any capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock.  You also receive a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

Giving Through Your Will or Living Trust
Many friends of the ALS Association of Georgia  make a gift of lasting significance through their will or living trust.
Consider discussing with your legal counsel the following bequests:

  • Giving a specific dollar amount
  • Giving a percentage of your estate or the residue after providing for family members
  • Giving specific parcel of real estate
  • Giving personal property

A sample provision might read as follows:

“I bequeath (here state the specific dollar amount, percentage, residue, or  description of real or personal property) to The ALS Association of Georgia, Inc.of Atlanta, Georgia to be used or disposed of as the Association in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

Matching Gifts
Every dollar you can give makes a difference in the life of an ALS patient PALS.  You can stretch these dollars by taking advantage of your employer’s matching gifts program.  Consult with your company’s Human Resources or Public Relations Department to determine if they have a matching gifts program and what gifts are eligible.  A matching gift enables you and your company to support the vital programs and services offered by the ALS Association of Georgia.
